Fans with cardiac tendencies probably shouldn’t see too many Marietta Post 29 American Legion baseball games this season.  Coach Harry Lockhart’s club won another cliffhanger Thursday night at Larry Bell Park – a 2-1 decision over super tough Post 251 from Sandy Springs.

Catcher-turned-pitcher Jim Mulkey chalked up the win, blanking the Spingers for 8 innings before he had to have help from Ronnie Prince, with one out in the ninth.  Post 251 got its only run in this frame.

Post 29’s Kenny Dunn, who has answered to the name “Dynamite” since his Little League days, lived up to that moniker in Thursday’s game.  The slight-built Sprayberry star poled a 2-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, out of Larry Bell Park – over the left-centered field 10=foot wall, a distance of 350 feet.  Chris Nation, who had the privilege of drawing the only walk from Post 261’s Bryant, was on base at the time.

Bryant went the route for Sandy Springs, allowing but 6 hits, walking one and fanning 7.  Mulkey gave up 4 hits, struck out 7 and walked 2 during his stint – Prince had 2 whiffs, walked one and hit one.

Dunn had a single to go along with his homer in 4 trips, and Curt Williams had a triple and a single in 4 abs.

Post 29, now 5-2 on the year, will be busy again Friday and Saturday nights.  Friday they visit Rome Post 5 for a return game, then come back to Larry Bell Park Saturday to host Gadsden (Ala.) Post 231 – the team that handed them one of their two losses.
