“Emergency Aid is like a disease.  When you catch it you are hooked…You can’t get out”.

In these words, a member of Cobb County Emergency Aid Assn., Inc., pinpointed why the local association has become such a lifesaver to thousands of families since its inception 10 years ago.

Occasion was the group’s annual meeting Thursday night at the Marietta Country Club.

For his role in the 1969 Christmas Program, Legion Commander Jake Barmore, Thursday night became the first person outside the aid group itself, to be awarded a special service plaque by the Emergency Aid organization.

“This (the combined Christmas program) is something Flo (CCEAA director Mrs, Florence Bettingfield) and I  have tried to get rolling the last four or five years,” Barmore said.  “I am just proud to be part of such a great thing in the Cobb area.”

Local American Legion Commander for six years, Barmore said, “Nobody knows how good it feels to help the needy until you get involved.  It is one of the most wonderful feelings I’ve ever had – helping people have a good Christmas.”

Also recognized for his 1969 contributions, was outgoing CCEAA president Ed Massey, who has turned over the reins to Mrs. Virginia Trottier.
