A celebration of the 37th birthday anniversary of the American Legion is being planned by local Legionnaires.

It will be part of a nationwide series of birthday parties by American Legion Posta from coast to coast.  A party has been scheduled by the American Legion Horace Orr Post 29 of Marietta on the night of March 20 at the post home at 8 p.m. according to C. M. Dudley, local post commander.

Commander Dudley stated he has named a special committee to arrange for the greatest American Legion anniversary party ever held here.  As a part of the nationwide birthday celebration, the local post is intensifying its 1956 membership campaign.

"We will extend a warm invitation to every eligible veteran in the community to enroll in the American Legion during the nationwide observance of its 1956 Birthday," Commander Dudley said.

The American Legion was founded at a caucus of delegates from the first AEF (American Expeditionary Forces) in Paris, France, March 15-17, 1919.  It includes eligible veterans of World War I and II, and of the Korean War.  "The growth and success of the American Legion has surpassed the fondest hopes of its founders," Commander Dudley stated.  "It is the largest veteran organization in all history.  It has 17,200 Posts.

As a final part of the local celebration there will be a free dance at the local American Legion home on Saturday March 24.

All members of the Post and their ladies are invited to attend.  The dance will begin at 9:00 p.m.
