At a special election held Tuesday evening, Ben Smith, well-known Marietta attorney, was elected commander of the Horace Orr American Legion Post. The election was made necessary by the recall to active duty of Major Bob Bissinnar, recent commander-elect.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Smith of Cumming, Ben is a graduate of North Georgia College and the University of Georgia Law School. He is associated in Marietta with Attorney Grady Vandiver. He served three years in the Navy during World War II, spending 15 months in the Pacific theatre as an aviation radioman.
New officers to the Post will be installed on June 19. A watermelon cutting is scheduled fofe July 3 under the direction of John Pope, present commander.
