A nominating committee consisting of Chairman Horace Bagwell, William Riner, James Shaw, Grover Fennell and Clyde Maxwell were appointed last night by Commander John Roy to choose a slate of officers for the regular election of Horace Orr Post 29 the second regular meeting in April.
In a busy night, the Legion Post also heard reports that two of their projects were moving forward to success, H. GH. Blevins, Boy Scout District Vice Chairman, and Joe Enloe, Scout neighborhood chairman, presented Wyan E. Best, Legion Institutional Representative, with a charter for the new Scout Troop which the post is sponsoring.
Commander Roy announced that the post's representative in the Legion Oratorical Contest, Miss Vivian Cantrell, had won the district contest and will compete again in the area contest at Fulton High School in Atlanta at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Special certificates for 30-years of continuous services were presented to Luther P. Burton, for 20-years service to Rogers Wheeler, and for five-years to Guy Wyrick, W. H. Finley, John Pope and Jack Arnett.
Guest speakermfor the evening was Carl Threadgill, Chief Metalsmith in the U. S. Navy, who spoke on "What the Navy Is Doing Toiday."
Threadgill stressed the fact that the Navy is only interested in good men, and requested that those who give references for recruits keep this fact in mind in making their recommendations.
