Our "Apples for Vietnam" has turned out to be one of the best projects that this Post has done in some years. In November 1966, we sent two crates of apples to the boys over there via an aircraft of the Georgia National Guard, under the command of Brigadier General Seymore Thompson. We instructed the crew to pick out any unit and see that the apples were distributed to the troops.
Our mail from Vietnam indicates that this was done and the guys were very grateful for this small effort on our part. Fresh apples are sent simply because they are very hard to get in Vietnam and they are perishable, therefore it is not possible for the Government to ship any large quantities.
Since that time we have sent 256 bushels to Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Guam, and Okinawa and received more letters of appreciation than one can imagine - just check the bulletin board. This project will continue as long as there are troops in that part of the world fighting to make an oppressed people free.
