Introduce WW1 Veterans

The monument and the former eternal flame around which we hold this ceremony as a tribute to all veterans was dedicated during the term of Hulett Richards, Commander of Post 143. Due to the escalation in the cost of maintaining the flame, it was necessary to have it turned off. But, it is a reminder of what ir represents.

Following were recognized - State Senator Wayne Garner, State Representative Charles Thomas of District 69; newly elected State Representative of District 70; County Commissioner Tracy Teal; State Court Judge Aubrey Duffey; State Veterans Service Counselor Mrs. Beatrice Parker; Carrollton Mayor Tracy Stallings; Carrollton Police Chief Hester.

This Veterans Day should remind us that, thanks to those who answered their country's call, this nation has endured periods of trial, peril and despair. We can give greater meaning to the day by advising our lawmakers that America's spirit of justice demands that there be no threats to the integrity of the nation's program of benefits for veterans.

Post 143 Chaplain Bobby Griffin gives closing prayer.
