During WW II, POWs were kept at a Japanese POW camp in Ubon. The conditions were harsh and food for the prisoners was in short supply. A Thai lady and her daughter, at the risk of their lives, would sneak up the to the camp and hand food through the fence. After the war the former prisoners wanted to show their thanks to “Mother Ubon” by building a monument which is located in Thung Sri Muang Park in Ubon. Every year on 11 November, a ceremony is held to honor and remember Mother Ubon for what she and her daughter did for the prisoners. This year was the first time TH01 participated in the ceremony. Attending was Commander Larry Edmonds, 2nd. Vice Ted Potyrala, Adjutant J.C. Molette Jr. , Maurice ( Rocky) Hatzke, Robert Kamps, Jeff Ludwig, Dennis Darwin and Joe Reedy, attended the Remembrance Ceremony. Commander Edmonds presented a wreath on behalf of Post TH01.
