JOHN L. MCBRIDE JR. WW II US Navy veteran who served on the USS Breese (DD-122) McBride was a Machinist Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer and was assigned to the ship in the Pacific theater immediately after hostilities broke out. During the 2 year period in theatre the ship and it’s crew were involved in several battles as a mine layer at Midway, the Solomons, the Russells, New Georgia, and Kula Gulf. Mcbride was commended..

This is TOMMY SHERMAN a WW II vet and a dedicated member of the American Legion for 66 yrs. Tommy was in the Army's 25th Division and spent time in Leyte Philippines before moving on to spend 15 months during the occupation of Japan. Presently Tom is 88 years young. Our honored WWII veteran JOHN KENNETH WICKHAM WW1 and WWII served aboard the USS Buchanan as a Torpedoman 1st. Wickham was the recipient of numerous awards including the Purple Heart issued November 12th 1942 for injuries sustained in the South Pacific. The award was given by Admiral W.F. Halsey. Commissioned on 12/31/43 the USS CASSIN YOUNG DD793 was in honor of the late Captain Cassin Young K.I.A. in the Solomon Islands. The ship was involved in many WWII operations in the Pacific theatre including but not limited to escort for the baby flat tops. Between October 23rd, and October 27th 1944 The ship was the recipient of many large scale Japanese attacks in the battle for Leyte Gulf where she rescued 120 men from..

The Ormond Beach American Legion was chartered on October 6th, 1950. Not long afterwards the name was changed to the "CASIN YOUNG" Legion in memory of WW II war hero Navy Captain Casin Young who was killed in battle in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific theatre.
