PURPOSE: This public meeting is called to form a local post of The American Legion.

BACKGROUND: New Haven used to have five Legion posts. Currently, Post 162 is considered dormant and Post 132 is “closed” to just New Haven firemen. There is no open American Legion post available in Connecticut’s second-largest city for the estimated 3,745 veterans who live in the Elm City.

STATUS: During the spring of 2018, four organizers have drafted the post constitution and bylaws, recruited the fifteen eligible veterans needed for a temporary charter, and set the dues at the minimum of $29.50. On July 25, 2018 a temporary charter was issued to the American Legion New Haven Post 210. The post must now approve The American Legion New Haven Post 210 Constitution and Post By-Laws, vote for initial officers, make initial appointments, and announce the Centennial Charter Member Campaign.
