From January 30 through March 3, 1933, Adjutant Joseph Hertz conducted a campaign to procure State Headstones for the graves of deceased veterans of the Civil and World Wars buried in local cemeteries. This was made a city project and employment in interviewing local families and completing the applications was given to ten people supervised by Past Commander Merriam. As a result of this work many new headstones were erected in the cemeteries of Norwalk and much data for future use was obtained.
