The first National Defense Day was observed i Norwalk on September 12, 1924. Early in the evening a street parade was held, Vice Commander Anson F. Keeler being Grand Marshal and Commander LeRoy D. Downs Chief-of-Staff. The local military, civic, and veterans' organizations, also delegations representing several fraternal organizations, took part in the event. Comrade Ernest K. Coulter of Frank C. Godfrey Post delivered an inspiring patriotic address at the State Armory, as part of the observance.
