Veterans Day honors all who have served our nation in war or peace—recognizing the sacrifices of living veterans as well as remembering those who have passed. First known as Armistice Day, the observance originally commemorated the end of World War I.
On November 7, 2025, members of the post, joined by managers and employees from local and surrounding Home Depot stores and students from Garner Magnet High School, volunteered to place American flags at the gravesites of all veterans interred at Carolina Biblical Gardens Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina. On November 13, 2025, Home Depot volunteers returned once again to assist in respectfully retrieving the flags.
On November 12, 2023, St. Matthew AME Church held a Veterans Recognition Program honoring the veterans within its congregation. Members of the Charles T. Norwood American Legion Post 157 were invited to stand alongside the church’s veterans and be recognized for their service.
On November 13, 2025, Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church held its annual commemoration of Private Charles T. Norwood, a World War I soldier for whom the post is named.
The Rev. Jemonde Taylor, Rector of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church, led a graveside service honoring Private Norwood at the Raleigh National Cemetery. The ceremony concluded with the sounding of Taps by Rev. Taylor played his bugle in tribute to both Private Charles T. Norwood and Past Post Adjutant, Legionnaire Millie Dunn Veasey.
Mrs. Benita Merritta, a member of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church, paid tribute to her father and grandfather, who are laid to rest side-by-side among the many veterans interred at Carolina Biblical Gardens Cemetery. The ceremony concluded with Prayer and the sounding of Taps, performed on the bugle by Rev. Jemonde Taylor, honoring her family and all veterans resting in the cemetery.
