During our September 18, 2021, monthly meeting we were honored to have a guest speaker from the 4th Force Support Squadron from Seymour Jonson AFB, NC. Mr. Andrew J. Colville is a Casualty Assistance Representative and Survivor Benefits Program Counselor. In attendant were the Post members, their wives, and Mrs. Cathy Gutierrez the Auxiliary Unit President.

 

     Mr. Colville informed us of the importance of being prepared in the event of a death of your spouse. He spoke of where to go on your Post and/or Base to get assistance from The Casualty Assistance Office. What benefits does your spouse/beneficiary need to apply for. He talked about the Arrears of Pay, The Survivor Benefit Plan, Life Insurance, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits due upon the death of a military retiree.

 

     The Casualty Assistance Representative will speak with you about any VA benefits and can assist you with any VA claims. Mr Colville expressed the importance of being prepared with the following documents: DD From 214, Retiree Account Statement (RAS), Wills or other documents, Life Insurance policies, list of payees and amounts for any allotments coming out of your retired pay.
