The American Legion District 1 held its fall meeting at American Legion Post 2 in Pueblo on Saturday. Jay and Jackie Bowen and Sam Hamamoto attended from the state organization. District 1 presented several awards for color guard, honor guard, outstanding work in the community and volunteerism.
Jay Bowen talked on the importance of Boys State and Girls State, especially for those who want to enter a military academy. Stan Hamamoto spoke about the healing effect of calling and visiting those who are ill, homebound or in the hospital.
Jay Scott spoke about changes in the Veterans Administration System and the necessity for registering with a VA clinic for health care. He also explained filing claims for benefits.
Jody Bracy spoke about social media and reaching out to younger veterans in a way they prefer to receive information. She encouraged each post to have a Facebook page and post their activities, as well as posting on the district page.
