American Legion Post #9 and the Patriot Riders hosted a picnic for the Otero County and City of La Junta first Responders on Sunday. The picnic was a thank you for all the help the local first responders have provided to keep the American Legion Patriot Riders safe on their various rides in the area.
Mardana Moreland of Leather and Lace Karoake/DJ provided music for the occasion. It was well attended and the food was abundant.
Most of the rides of the Patriot Riders are in honor of fallen veterans and their families. One exception is the Toy Ride, initiated by the late Wayne Kash, which collects toys to be delivered to local families with children during the Christmas season. There is also an annual Toy Ride dance at the Elks Club in Rocky Ford in December. Leader of the American Legion Patriot Riders is Post #9 Historian Jody Bracy.
