The American Legion held its State Convention at the Hotel Elegante in Colorado Springs June 25-28. American Legion District 1 was well represented with American Legion Post 9 La Junta, Post 8 Rocky Ford, Post 6 Las Animas, Post 94 Ordway, Post 71 Lamar, Post 106 Fowler, and Post 9313 Fort Lyon all in attendance for the Saturday meetings and election of state officers.
Outgoing State Commander Richard Humphrey presided over the elections along with State Adjutant C. Pat Smith. Two members of District 1 were elected to the American Legion Department of Colorado. The new Commander is Tom Florez from American Legion Post 94 Ordway, and Steven Varella from American Legion Post 106 Fowler was elected to Department Junior Vice Commander.
At the conclusion of elections American Legion Riders Post 9 Director Jody Bracy received the official Charter for the riders from State Commander Richard Humphrey and American Legion Riders State Chairman Dean "Caspar" Noechel.
