The American Legion was chartered by Act of Congress on 16 Sept 1919 and Post 37 received its charter on 27 Sept 1919. This makes our Post 37 one of the very first American Legion Posts. When a Post is chartered it first receives a temporary charter allowing it to be established. After ninety days it can apply for a permanent charter. Our permanent charter was issued on 29 Nov 1920, The date we use is of course 27 Sept 1919 as that is when we officially started. We are very proud that we were one of the first.
