On Saturday, June 4th, 2016 the Samuel Dipaolo American Legion Post #1985 in Firestone, Colorado held their annual car show. Unfortunately, so did about 12 other organizations in the area. With the number of car shows and contests occurring in the area, it was easy to see that there were more contests than cars, so not everyone got all of the cars that they wanted. Although we may not have had the quantity that we would have liked, we certainly had great quality in the cars that showed up. There coupes from the 1940’s, a pick-up truck from the same year, a 1941 Buick, a great looking Chevrolet Camero convertible and a beautifully restored black 53 Chevrolet pick-up. Just to keep the big cars in line, there was a large contingent of “Minis”. A great selection of Mini Coopers came by and presented a variety in style, color, and design for our review. These seemed to be the highlight of the event and one of the strongest draws of the day. The show was opened with the presentation of the American flag by the local Young Marine group. Although a youth group, these Young Marines did an excellent presentation, and it was well received by all. In support of the car show, the Ladies Auxiliary also provided a lunch available for all with non-alcohol drinks. For the drivers and car teams that were part of the show, there were handouts, and chances at various drawings. For all who attended, drivers and viewers alike, there was also a silent auction goin on during the day for some great gift items.
