The Samuel DiPaolo American Legion Post 1985 has a long history of helping the Carbon Valley celebrate the 4th of July and this year was no exception. For the Post, the 4th actually begins on the 3rd when the Ladies Auxiliary begins setting up for the Pancake Breakfast. Beginning with setting up and decorating the tables for breakfast. Then continuing with the cooking of a lot of the food for the morning. The 4th of July dawns early for the Ladies Auxiliary. Breakfast starts at 7:00 A.M. and runs until 9:30 A.M. This year the Ladies served over 300 customers and 30 plus volunteers for the Town of Firestone. At 9:30 A.M. the line up for the 4th at Firestone parade began in Frederick, and the American Legion had the #2 position. The Legion Riders were part of the Legion’s presence in this year’s parade. They were lined up along with the float. Both the Legion float and the Legion Riders were well received during the parade and took First Place for Floats in the Parade. That afternoon after the parade the Sons of the American Legion conducted their lunch with hamburgers, hot dogs, and chili. This began at Noon and was scheduled to go until 3:00 PM. By 1:00 PM the Sons had sold out of hamburgers, almost sold out of hot dogs, and had sold a good deal of the chili. The Sons lunch was a great deal and it went quick. By 1:30 PM the only major items still going strong were the American Legion Beer Garden and the Legion Riders margarita bar. These items are always a highlight of every 4th at Firestone, and this year was no different. There were good drinks and great friendship in abundance at the Beer Garden until it closed
