Legionnaire Mel Martinez is pictured (second rank outlined by black marker) in this iconic WWII photo of the US Army's 28th Infantry Division marching down the Champs Elysees during the "Victory Day" parade celebrating the liberation of Paris on 29 August 1944.
A funeral service was held for Mel on February 24, 2016, at St. Peter and St. Rosa Catholic Church, Arboles, CO. The Legion Honor Guard provided final honors and was accompanied by a flag folding detail from the Colorado Army National Guard.
