The Town of Pagosa Springs dedicated a multi-acre town park to the memory of four brothers, Ernest, Fred, George, and Ralph Yamaguchi. The four brothers served in the famous 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. The 442nd was an all Japanese American regiment. It was the most highly decorated military unit in the history of the United States Armed Forces. Following the war, Ralph Yamaguchi served as mayor of Pagosa Springs and was the first Japanese- American mayor elected in the United States. Ralph was a longtime and active member of Post 108. The park includes paved hiking and biking trails, ball fields, a skate park, and access to the San Juan River. The park is located on South 5th Street just south of Pagosa Springs High School.
