A rifle salute, Taps and the Battle Hymn of the Republic echoed across Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs Saturday as American Legion personnel dedicated a grave marker for George W. Dowell, a Civil War veteran whose burial site was never marked. The stone was provided by the Veterans Administration after local supporting evidence of eligibility was amassed by Ann Oldham and processed by local Veteran's Service Officer Sharon Pinkerton.
