For 95 years the Legion Color Guard led the July 4 parades with one exception...1988. When a crew of 15 veterans arrived, they were told they would have to march behind the horses at the end of the parade because they had not registered. They refused the offer and did not participate.
Historian's Note: Not only was this insulting, but we all know that it's not prudent to march BEHIND the horses!
