During the City of Oxnard Veterans Day Program hosted by Oxnard Post 48, November 11, 2011 Post 48 presented a naval ceremonial sword to Retired Navy Captain Ralph Scaffidi. Captain Scaffidi’s sword had been stolen when he shipped it to his home from his last Command. He had his sword since his graduation from the Naval Academy.
The presentation was a surprise; the Captain had been invited to the program to receive a plaque from the Post for his many years of service. Upon being escorted to the stage he was presented with a new ceremonial sword from Post 48.
The sword was presented by Legionnaire; Retired Master Chief Jerry Pereira to the Executive Officer of Ventura County Naval Base for presentation to Captain Scaffidi.
