As World War II approached the WPA built a 1,980-ft. runway on 35 acres one mile west of the town of Oxnard dubbed Ventura County Airport. In one of the more spectacular achievements of Oxnard Post 48, the post organized promoted and managed an Air Show to commemorate the opening and dedication on July 4, 1935. 10,000 spectators attended the show.
