On September 30, 1919 "The Oxnard Daily Courier" ran a small piece announcing the Ventura post had received its charter from the national organization. On October 15, 1919 the same paper ran an announcement http://www.post48.org/firstmtg.html that the American Legion was to meet on Tuesday, October 21, 1919 at the Court House to elect its officers and form a permanent organization. The article invited all ex-soldiers and sailors to attend.
