On August 12, 1919 Jasper Berry signed the "Application For Post Of American Legion" http://www.post48.org/application.html. Just two days after the first Caucus of the American Legion in America held in Saint Louis, Missouri. The name of the post at its inception was "Ventura County Post 48" and would serve the whole of Ventura County. On this application were listed as Charter Members: Jasper Barry, Ventura; Richard N Haydon, Ventura; Robert M Sheridan, Ventura; Milton E Ramelli, Ventura; George Robinson Carne, Ventura; Albert Day Weber, Ventura; Charles P Daly, Ventura; Harry C Peck, Ventura; H. M. Walters, Oxnard; Freeman R Bliss, Oxnard; Waldo H. Dingman Jr., Ventura; Louis T Moraga, Ventura; John J. Blackstone, Ventura; Walter H. Hoffman Jr., Ventura; Harry B. Jewitt, Oxnard.
Again the application was denied as a County wide post and the name amended to Ventura Post 48.
