Various photographs from our archives dating as far back as 1928. One particular photo is of a Post Meeting at what is now known as Bob Hope Patriotic Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. Two prominent Charter Members are depicted. Rudy "Cookie" Vejar (in front of the patrol car) was killed in the line of duty on November 12, 1932. William Traeger was Sheriff of Los Angeles County from 1921-1932. He also served as a Congressman. Another photograph depicts the early Legion Riders. This motorized unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is the precursor to what is now the California Highway Patrol after then Undersheriff Eugene Biscailuz became the first Superintendent of the CHP. A prominent member and Post Commander, Stephen W. Sodel, was an officer with the CHP. He was tragically killed in the line of duty on September 17, 1946.
