The Charter for Post 139 Clarence E. Beely was signed by the National Commander on March 10, 1921 and countersigned by the Department of Arkansas Commander and Adjutant on March 20, 1921.
The post hut was dedicated on August 26, 1934, in honor of Springdale's first World War I victim, Clarence Edwin Beely. Beely was killed during the Meuse-Argonne battle on October 3, 1918. His body was returned in October 1921 and is buried about a half mile away in Bluff Cemetery.

The Rodeo of the Ozarks began in 1944 by a group of Springdale men and women led by founder, Shorty Parsons. World War II was at its height. People were working hard and around the clock. Entertainment and relief from the unrelenting headlines were much needed. The idea of having a rodeo was born.

Ulys A. Lovell, a Springdale attorney, was elected Commander of the Arkansas Department of the American Legion today at the close of the organization's 38th Annual 4-day convention in El Dorado, Arkansas. Lovell was a World War I veteran and member of Post 139.

The construction of the American Legion Hut was one of Springdale's most memorable community projects during the Depression. A lifetime Springdale resident Harold E. Henson, a veteran of both World Wars, remembered the event as a "gallant effort by legionnaires and townspeople."

Governor Asa Hutchinson visited with students who attended 2018 Boys & Girls State at a reception in their honor at Post 139. Refreshments were served, and students' parents were invited to attend as well.
The students were excited to have their photos taken with the governor and to share with him what Boys & Girls State meant to them and how it would impact their futures.
