On March 18, 2017, Members of John Ivens Post 42 and Boy Scout Troop 7230, Grand Canyon, Arizona, conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony. This ceremony was the Eagle Scout Project for SAL member Noah Yarnell. The Boy Scout Troop and members of Post 42 collected over 100 flags that needed to be retired. While discussing how many flags would be retired during this ceremony, it was decided to retire 98. That would symbolize the age of the Grand Canyon National Park and the age of the American Legion. Noah coordinated everything from the location for the retirement, all the equipment needed for the ceremony and assigning jobs for members of the American Legion to perform. In April 2017, Noah reported to the Eagle Scout board in Flagstaff, Arizona and after many questions and explaining his project, he was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
