The Auxiliary of the John H. Slaughter American Legion Post 30 of Springerville-Eager selected Friea Crocker and Shelley Ashcroft (with Cambria Brown as alternate)as their candidates to attend Girls State, where they received training in government at the local, state and national levels. Girls State was held at the University of Arizona in Tucson June 10-16, 1991. The girls, both students at Round Valley High School, described their experiences to the Legion and Auxiliary members at the Girls State/Boys State Dinner sponsored by the Legion and Auxiliary in September 1991.
