In June, we were invited to participate with ANB in honoring the Tlingit Code Talkers. Upon the conclusion of the event we already started planning to celebrate Code Talker Day with a full out Celebration of Life of the 5 Tlingit Code Talkers. We Partnered with ANB once again and also partnered with Salvation Army Sitka Corps and local businesses AC Lakeside, Coliseum Theater and Harbor Mountain Brewing to make this a worthy event. We also had some very special guests join us in our celebration. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and the United States Coast Guard Commandant, Admiral Linda L. Fagan. They brought with them a flag that was flown over the capital to award to ANB President Peter Karras, who is also the nephew of the brothers Mark and Harvey Jacobs, Code Talkers. We even had our Legionnaire Bag Piper march them in. The day started off with the showing of the documentary, Navajo Code Talkers of WW2 and it was free to the public. This proved to be a full house event as many proud Sitkans came to watch. We also had Film Producer, Kody Dayish, who talked about his experience meeting and talking with Navajo Code Talkers in research of his new in-production movie “Unbroken Code”. This movie will tell the origin of the Navajo Code Talkers from their life before, during and after the war.
