Post 1 was named for First Lieutenant Elmer John "Cy" Noble, U.S. Army, killed in action 26 September 1918 as a result of artillery fire while serving with Company D, 364th Infantry Regiment of the 91st Infantry Division, in Meuse-Argonne, France.  He  is buried at Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial Romagne-sous-Montfaucon Departement de la Meuse Lorraine, France.  He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously.  Born in Snohomish, spent his early years there, then the family moved to Centralia in Lewis County.  He served and was a Sergeant in the Washington National Guard.  He attended the University of Washington, and was an award winning "Husky" halfback, graduated in 1917.  He had had been stationed at Camp Lewis, WA, Fort Sill, OK, and Camp Merritt, NJ, before being sent to France.  In 1928, the "Citizen Military Training Camp" at Camp Lewis was moved to Camp Murray, and the camp was named Camp Noble, for First Lieutenent Elmer J. Noble.

Chartered in 1919, by May of 1921, Rainier Post 21, consolidated with Noble Post 1 and the name had been changed to Rainier Noble Post 1.  Many posts have consolidated with Post 1 since.  On 18 September 1928, "Seattle Post No. 1, Department of Washington American Legion" registered with the Washington Secretary of State as a Fraternal Society.  We are known as "Seattle Post 1".    Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial Romagne-sous-Montfaucon Departement de la Meuse Lorraine, FranceAft. 27 Sep 1918  Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial Romagne-sous-Montfaucon Departement de la Meuse Lorraine, France
