About This Post

Post Namesake
In October 1933, eighty-one years ago this year, a small group of Veterans met in a room over the old Lorton Post office which, at the time, was known as Springman’s Store and envisioned an active American Legion Post in the Lorton Community. After several meetings, a Temporary Charter was applied for at the Department of Virginia Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. The application was approved and on November 13, 1933, American Legion Pohick Post #162 began operating under a Temporary Charter. In July 1938, a resolution was presented and adopted to change the name of Pohick Post #162 to Lorton Post # 162 and a Permanent Charter was issued at that time.
