Illinois American Legion post joins community for ribbon cutting of new memorial
Members of The American Legion joined their community in Grafton, Ill. on the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion for a ceremony to unveil the new National Memorial of Military Ascent. The bronze statues, 12 in all, are a life-sized tribute to Army Rangers who, under fire, scaled the 110-foot cliffs at Pointe du Hoc on June 6, 1944. At the dedication, Grafton mayor and Post 38 member, retired Col. Mike Morrow said, “We dedicate this memorial to the indomitable spirit of the American people and everyone who ever served in uniform, their families, and all who supported them ….This memorial is for you.”
