Post Namesake

Brazoria’s American Legion Post 561 was named for the 1st casualty of the Korean War in Brazoria County.

 Private First Class James Edward Anderson was born March 5, 1932 to Laverne Edward "Sailor" and Lorene S. Waldon Anderson.  He was the oldest of 3 boys.  He volunteered for the service in May 1949 at the age of 17.  After basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas he was shipped out to Tokyo in September 1949 and remained there until May 1950.  He was sent to Korea where he was killed in action July 16, 1950.  He was missing 8 months prior to notification of his death.

What Makes this Post Unique

What really makes our post unique are the people of Brazoria, Texas..  Brazoria has a small town atmosphere with an awesome historical setting.   Brazoria has a very rich history and our post has added to that history by bringing local veterans together to serve all veterans and the community.   Our post works with the City of Brazoria, Chamber of Commerce, Brazoria Heritage Foundation and several veteran organizations in and around Brazoria.  Our post has continued to grow each year and our focus is to help veterans and the community.
