Cyrus Earle Graham

17 April 1894 – 9 November 1918

Born in Rock Prairie, Brazos County, Texas, the youngest of five sons born to the Cyrus Calhoun Graham family. He graduated from Allen Academy in Bryan, and then entered the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. While at Texas A&M he served in the Ross Volunteers, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1916. Soon after graduation he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. He received his certificate of graduation from the United States School of Military Aeronautics on 13 October 1917, and was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant on 18 May 1918.

He was killed in a plane crash in France on 9 November 1918, just two days before the armistice was signed, and he was buried in France on 11 November 1918. His family was not notified of his death until 23 November 1918. Several years later his remains were returned to Bryan and buried with full military honors in the Bryan City Cemetery. When Post 159 of the American Legion was formed after World War I, the charter members voted to name the post in honor of Cyrus Earle Graham.
