Tyler Cates Post 281 was named after LCPL Steven Charles Tyler Cates who was an Infantryman in the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, United States Marine Corps. He was a Mt Juliet resident and graduated from Mt. Juliet High School in 2001. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 19, 2001. He was deployed to Iraq in August, 2004 and killed by enemy fire in September, 2004. He was the son of Patricia Cates Shaw and her husband Phillip Shaw of Mt Juliet and his father Steven C. Cates of Lebanon.
