Derucie Henry is elected Commander and this starts his service to the Post and the American Legion.  Derucie is elected Commander this year but his legacy is as the Adjutant for the next 32 years.  He served as Adjutant unit 1985.

His Adjutant for this year was Ezra A. Barnes with a membership of 464.

The beginning of continous leadership in the Post

We have already established Derucie Henry as the Adjutant for 32 continous years.  Now starts the leadership of Commander William Hugh Woods.  For the next 13 years except for 1963, Commander Woods and Adjutant Herny guided the post.  Membeship varied from a high in 1960 of 300 to a low of 94 in 1973.

Our Post hosted the first that I know of, membership drive for the 10th District, West Tennessee. We were very successful in transferring members from Post 2000 to 0162. Thanks to Commander Danny Monroe, Adjutant Holsonback, and VSO Teddy Miller.

Post 162 in Selmer, Tennessee participated in two separate events today in celebration of Veterans Day. First, the Honor and Color Guard had the honor to help the Rutan Club of Ramer, Tennessee celebrate Veteran's Day. Keynote speaker was Rep. Ron Gant of District 96. Our Post Adjutant Lou Holsonback also talked about Veterans. Then we provided a 21 Gun Salute and Taps was played.

Today, the Post Honor Guard and Color Guard assisted in the Veteran's Day Program at the Court House and then led the parade through Selmer. The celebration started with the posting of the Colors and a laying of a wreath. Assisting with the wreath was a WWII Veteran of McNairy County. Speeches followed by the City and the County Mayors and Adjutant Holsonback. A 21 Gun Salute and the playing of Taps concluded the event.

Z T Amos, a WWII Veteran and a 14 year continuous member of Post 162 has been called to serve in the Post Everlasting. Mr. Amos departed this Post last Sunday and will be last to rest tomorrow, December 24, 2016. Post 162 will provide final Honors for this war hero.

Lou Holsonback, Adjutant for Post 162 in Sekmer, participated in a Flag Retirement Ceremony at Pin Oak Elementary School in Lexington, TN. The program was for the 4th and 5th graders at the school and the Department Historian, Rex McBee, was in charge. The kids were really engaged and they along with other members of the staff learned the proper way to retire unserviceable flags.

Members of the Post and Auxiliary attended to 19th District convention primarily to elect a new District Commander. In attendance from the Post was Commander Danny Monroe, Adjutant Lou Holsonback, Unit President Lavonne Monroe, and Unit Secretary Nancy Holsonback. The current Commander, Rickie Parker and Post 1 Commander Terry Adams were nominated and by vote Terry Adams is the new District Commander.
