About This Post

Post Namesake

Wayne County Post # 130 was organized on June 23 1942, with Commander of L.O. Crane Post # 63 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee officiating and H.I. Carrell acting as Adjutant. This Post was split from the Lawrence County Post because of the travel involved for Wayne County Veterans to attend meetings during War years when there was a severe rubber shortage.

The officers installed that first meeting, which had an attendance of 34, were: Doctor W.G. Anderson, CMDR J.G. Hughes, First Vice CMDR, Paul Taylor, 2nd Vice CMDR L.O. Eubanks, Chaplain H.I. Stull, Adjutant and Service Officer C.C. Griggs, Finance Officer; T.C. Melton and S.B. Casey, Sergeant-at-Arms.

A Veterans home was built, in 1946. It has a clubroom, basement and stage for meeting purposes. The funds to build this home were raised by hard working Legionaires who contacted Veterans, and anyone who they might get to contribute to this worthy cause.

Post 130 has a membership of 234 members. The post has a quota of 180 members. The Post needs plumbing fixtures and means of serving meals, which are being considered at this time July 19th 2018

America's premier national Veterans organization, the American Legion, turns 100 years old in 2019. The Legion post 130 of Waynesboro, Tennessee launched their preliminary celebration with a 99 birthday Party for the Ladies Auxiliary Post 130 on Tuesday April 10, 2018 acknowledging their great support. We, as a well establihed American Legion Post with a great history of serving our community, understand that our accomplishments have ben realized because our Ladies Auxiliary has been willing and capable of providing support for our goals as an American Legion Post. Similar to a good marriage. The end results is always better when both partners perform at their best. Post 130 is blessed with a great group of Ladies ! It may be the first time in American Legion history when the Post have fed the Ladies with the exception of some fantastic deserts our Ladies brought to the event. We Salute our Ladies !

American Legion Post 130, while primarily seeking to help local Veterans, is involved in a number of Community events. Veteran's Day will find us speaking to local School children about America and who they will become as American adults. Memorial Day will find us on the Town Square condunting Memorial Day services honoring Veterans from all branches of service and all Wars.

Tuesdays and Thursdays we provide free Coffee and fine camraderie to anyone who wishes to stop by between 0700 and 1400 hours (7am-2pm). Whe have been instrumental in raising funds for the local Butterfly Foundaton, and individually helping "kids Place" of Lawrenceburg in fund raising efforts. We have been known to provide some of the best grill-cooked Hamburgers in the County as a means of raising funds for our own operations.

We have initiated a new program at Post 130, called "Adopt A Veteran" whereby we ensure that Veterans, residing in Nursing facilities and Assisted Living facilities, receive the attention they have earned when there are no close family or friends to provide for them. Each Veteran will have his or her own "Big Brother or Sister" to keep an eye on them.

On a more sobering note, in cooperation with American Legion Post 254 of Collinwood, we provide a Military Funeral service or Memorial service for a fallen brother-in-arms. We lend a hand to verified traveling Veterans who fall on hard times and need a helpind to lift them up. We are the the American Legion. We are about helping, educating, and Community Service. Come see us on a Tuesday or Thursday morning to some good free Coffee at Bus Stop 130 !

We are in the process of making our plans for our celebration in March of 2019 / James Coy Anderson - member (former Commander) Post 130/
