About This Post

Post Namesake
Westlund Post #44 was chartered Jan. 3rd 1922 and had 16 members at the time. Westlund Post was named after Corp. Carl E. Westlund who was KIA Oct. 5, 1918. Charter members were Walter Henry Lawrensen, David Arthur Soderman, Enoch Lenard Larson, Martin Axlund, Eric Freed, Alvin Alstrom, Morris Jensen, Osmund Jacobson, Robert Nelson, Walter W. Hult, Knute Mossberg, Oscar Steiner, Eugene Nelson, Robert L. Oden, Albin A. Westlund, and Sigmund G. Sandberg. Sometime later a "Roll of Honor" was proclaimed and framed with a picture of Carl E. Westlund along side. That picture is posted here. On April 11, 1946 a new charter was issued and renamed Westlund-Peterson Post #44. The added name was to honor Peterson whose life was lost in WWII.
What Makes this Post Unique
Many things, but most famously our longtime tradition of making the best ribs in the area, maybe the nation! Our secret recipe sauce and ribs are made the right way slow cooked over corn cobs, stop by in the late summer and see for yourselves!
