Samuel J. Bush - Samuel Jackson Bush, M Att 1, USN, and his brother Leon Wellington Bush, N. Att 2c, USN, were sons of Adam W. Bush, O C 1c, USN Retired, of Dale, SC.  Both brothers were in the Navy at Pearl Harbor on the USS California when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on December 7, 1941.One hundred and three crew members died during the attack. On January 1, 1942, the Beaufort Gazette reported both brothers died in the attack.  Samuel J. Bush was in fact killed in action but Leon W. Bush survived, was discharged on July 28, 1942, and then lived in New York.

Their father was a Steward of the American Legion's Beaufort Post 9 at which time, January 1, 1942, W. A. Lindberg was the Commander and Chas Knott was the Adjutant.
