On April 10, 1922 a group of World War I veterans met in the Annville Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) rooms on East Main Street to organize a post for the American Legion. Charter officers of the new legion post in Annville were: David Fink, Commander; George DeLong, 1st Vice Commander; Norman Streicher, Adjutant; D Ellis Zimmerman, Finance Officer; Albert Gebhart, Chaplain; Paul Baylor, Sergeant-at Arms; Joseph W Boltz, Harry Blouch, Simon Grimm, Claude Poorman and Claude Kleinfelter, Trustees. The members selected Joseph T Connor as the post name, in honor of a comrade who died on September 29, 1918 while serving in France during the war. In 1946 the post name was changed to Connor-Streicher to pay tribute to Ralph E. Streicher and Richard Streicher, both killed in action over Germany during World War II, and both sons of the first Joseph T Connor Post Adjutant, Norman Streicher. Biography of Joseph T Connor: Born in Illinois, he lived in North Annville Township when he enlisted in the 316th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, U. S. Army, during 1918. Private First Class Joseph T Connor was killed in action on September 29, 1918 in France. He was buried in Plot C, Row 28, Grave 3 of the Meuse-Argone American Cemetery at Romagne, France. After the war Joseph was reburied in Mt Annville Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, PA. Biography of Ralph E Streicher: Born on January 4, 1924 in Annville Twp, Lebanon County, PA, he was the son of Norman Streicher and Sara Hess. On March 1, 1943 he joined the United States Army Air Force, serving in the 359th Bomber Squadron, 303rd Bomber Group. Staff Sergeant Ralph Streicher died on May 19, 1944 while serving over Berlin, Germany. He was buried in Europe but was returned home and reburied in Mt Annville Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, PA. Biography of Richard L Streicher: Born on November 20 1924, he was the son of Norman L Streicher and Sara Hess. He enlisted in the United States Army during December, 1941. He later joined the United States Army Air Force 532nd Bomber Squad, 381st Bomber Group. He was a staff sergeant when he was killed in action on January 4, 1944 over Kiel, Germany. Richard was initially buried in Europe but was returned home and reburied on July 11, 1948 in Mt Annville Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, PA.
