Post Namesake
Ray A. Master, 23, a musician in the 58th Infantry Regiment Band, the son of Charles Master and Mrs. Harvey Sicher, of Topton, was Killed In Action during the Battle of Chateau Thierry, France on August 4, 1918, while serving as a stretcher bearer. A U.S. Army Corporal, Master survived the torpedoing of his transport ship, RMS Moldavia, a British ocean liner used to transport troops to Europe on May 23, 1918. he was initially buried in France, then his body was brought home and re-interred in the Union Cemetery, Bowers, PA on August 6, 1921.

ALL of our Post 217 Honor Guard members are notable due to the time spent serving our neighbor veterans by presenting Final Honors for them and their families in all types of weather.
What Makes this Post Unique
We have a 28 member Honor Guard at our post that performs "Final Honors" for veterans in Eastern Pennsylvania, mostly in Berks and Lehigh Counties. Our Honor Guard has averaged 115 "Final Honors" over the past 10 years, in fact we had 140 in one year.
