Jon Ross Townsend and John Glen Doles

Jon Ross Townsend made the ultimate sacrifice for his country when he laid down his life on September 16, 2012, in Afghanistan, he was 19. Born October 28, 1992, in Claremore to Robert Wayne and Karen (Harrison) Townsend, Jon received his education in Sequoyah Schools. Two days following high school graduation, in May 2011, he entered Army boot camp, the culmination of many months of preparation. Jon was a gifted child, both academically and musically. He performed Amazing Grace solos while standing on a chair to the delight of his family and could recite the Pledge of Allegiance and his multiplication tables before beginning school. Jon was actively involved in the 4H program where his chickens, turkeys, and geese earned numerous ribbons and even cash prizes. Greatly influenced by Michael Mefford, a former band teacher, Jon played almost any instrument he picked up, including the trumpet, drums, and guitar. He was strong in his Christian faith and enjoyed sharing his faith with others, hoping someone might accept, believe, and have eternity to praise and worship God. A deep devotion to his family was evident in Jon's treatment of his mother and grandmother. He never left home without making sure they knew of his love for them. He loved his family and friends and expressed it often.

SSG John Glen Doles was born June 6, 1976, in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1994, he graduated from Chelsea High School. SSG Doles fought in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He graduated from Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, the Primary Leadership Development Course, and the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course. SSG Doles was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Vicenza, Italy. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal with Arrowhead Device, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge with Combat Star, and Air Assault Badge. SSG Doles made the ultimate sacrifice serving his country in Afghanistan, September 30, 2005.
