About This Post

Post Namesake
For some time the Ex-Service men of the West Side of Columbus, Ohio had felt the need of an active Legion Post in their community. There were more than 3000 Veterans of the World War west of the Scioto River and very few of them belonged to the various posts over the city. What few held cards, were not very active because of the large memberships and isolated meeting places. There was no Neighborhood Loyalty and the interest of the members was at a low ebb. Franklin Post No. 1 passed a resolution more than a year ago to the effect that a new Legion Post should be organized on the West Side, but not until April 1929, was a meeting held for the purpose of obtaining a Charter and election of temporary officers. After careful consideration and much discussion it was decided to use the name “Camp Chase Post No. 98” in commemoration of the Columbus boys that fought in the three wars. Camp Chase for those in the Civil War, No. 98 for Spanish War Veterans and American Legion for the Veterans of the Great World War.
