United States World War I Soldier. Wesley Werner (Birth: 1894 - Death: November 1918), the son of Christopher and Caroline Werner lived in Mount Healthy, Ohio and served in the Army when America went into the Great War. Werner entered the service in 1917 on the eighth of June and was a Private in Company B of the 1st Infantry, Ohio National Guard. He made Private First Class on July 26, 1917. On October 25th, he was transferred to Company L of the 147th Infantry and served in that capacity until he was transferred to Company D of the same regiment on January 4, 1918. Werner became a Corporal on June 22, 1918 in the American Expeditionary Forces. He died from wounds on November 10, 1918, the day before the Armistice. He was later repatriated to his hometown and Wesley Werner American Legion Post 513 at 7947 Hamilton Avenue in Mount Healthy is named in his honor.

Lester “Les” Rowekamp is a United States Army Air Corps, World War II Veteran, all of 1944. He was assigned to the 512th Squadron, 376th Bomb Group, and the 15th Air Force, based in Southern Italy. Les carried the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the Top Turret Armor Gunner onboard the D Model B-24 Liberator Bomber aircraft. He flew a total of fifty bombing missions, three of which was on the famous WWII bomber dubbed “The Strawberry Bitch.” Les and his crew was responsible for bombing runs that included Northern Italy, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Southern France, and Southern Germany. As Les recalled, their most important target during the campaign was the Ploesti, Romania oil fields which was well protected with many anti-air guns. Les and his crew did five bombing runs on the Ploesti, Romania oil fields. It was during one of these runs that Les shot down a German ME-210 twin engine fighter. He returned home the day after Christmas in 1944 on furlough.
