Thomas Keith Moore Details for Thomas Keith Moore Rank: Unit: Branch of Service: Enlistment Date: October 1943 Private First Class Moore Source: The Charlotte Observer 12-15-1944 Date of Birth: Place of Birth: Date of Death 10/18/1944 - Italy Education: New Salem High School Military Posts/Deployments: Camp Patrick Henry, VA Camp Wheeler, GA Fort Meade, MD Italy Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Killed in service in Italy. Memorial Service at Euto Baptist Church in Union County on Dec 17, 1944. Thomas Keith Moore was a senior in high school when he received his draft notice. PFC Moore's father went to the draft board in an attempt to allow his son time to finish his senior year. The draft board denied the request. Thomas Keith Moore entered Army service in October of 1943 and was killed before his senior class graduated. The Moore's Family donated the land where the post home sits today. The New Salem community came together to build the post. Lumber(Trees) was brought in from around the county and cut on site. Many of the member of the post members today had fathers and grandfathers who help build the post

If someone is looking for Post 440 New Salem, It's not hard to find, just look for the Vietnam era Cobra Helicopter parked out front. Post 440 is in a very small community but we have many active members. Our post was actually built by the community and our charter members, the lumber was cut on site. Four of our members are charter member and have over fifty years of Legion membership. Our Post has conducted a Memorial Day Service in honor of New Salem soldiers killed in action for over 50 years. Our posts Color Guard has led the Unionville July 4th parade for almost 60 years. Our post is truly a community post, most of our members live close to the post
