About This Post

Post Namesake
Treasury Post 45 is a business post consisting of IRS employees, hence the name Treasury. The IRS is under the Department of the Treasury. Originally the post's area of membership was Manhattan, NY, then Brooklyn was added and finally we now cover the NYC metropolitian area including Westchester County.
Notable Members
Our most notable members are the members who started the post. In 1919 - Matthew J. Bride, Jerry J. Brown, Jack Crowley, Francis W. Maley and Fred Ward. In 1921 Mayer B. Funk and in 1922 Lawrence J. Matthews joined the post. In 1926 our temporary charter was granted and we had 24 additional "charter members". These members are the founders of our post who took the initiative to start and charter Treasury Post 45. Jerry Brown, one the initial members remained active throughout his lifetime and was the cornerstone of our post.
What Makes this Post Unique
Our records reflect that 5 IRS employees started the Treasury Post 45 in 1919. Two other members joined in 1921 and 1922. A temporary charter was granted in 11/8/1926 and a permanent charter was issued 11/17/1934. Post 45’s eligibility was limited to Revenue Agents in the Examination Division (Audit). Recently we have amended our constitution to change our eligibility to cover all IRS employees. In the post WW2 and Korea time period, 1950’s and 60’s, our post had well over 600 members, inducting several hundred Agents between the periods 1945 to 1957. Our retirees live in Nevada, Florida, and Arizona and in most of the east coast states. Our numbers have decreased over the years and we are in the process of recruiting new members. One of our goals is to provide a venue for veterans in the IRS to get together in a social atmosphere to discuss and interact their past military services, develop friendships, along with business discussions. Post 45 also provides them with a vehicle to assist in helping other veterans. Throughout the years we have assisted in helping our veterans and servicemen and women in the local VA hospital and facilities. We hold an annual Veterans Day fundraiser whereby we use the proceeds of the fundraiser to donate medical equipment to the area VA hospital system, Some of the equipment we have donated over the years include a nonmagnetic wheelchair for use in the MRI suite, heart monitoring equipment, operating table, urology light source equipment, audio visual equipment for waiting room, computerized foot scanning device, eye exam equipment, motorized 10 person transporter, sigmoidoscope, breath analysis device, colon examination equipment, mobile rocker wheelchairs, neurological equipment and hilo table and parallel bars, 3D printer and monitor, medical equipment specifically for servicewomen, Sagittal Saw, and symposiums on VA health. Post 45 was recognized in the American Legion 1989 magazine issue for our donation of medical equipment. We have maintained a close relationship with the local VA hospitals in the NY Harbor Health System and the American Legion Service Officers in our region. The Service Officers and VA personnel come to our meetings updating the members on benefits and procedures with the VA for claims/benefits.
